Highlights of Railway Budget 2011-12

- No hike in passanger fare and freight rates.

- Senior citizen concesssion to be hiked to 50%.

- Women to get Senior citizen concession from 58 yrs.

- Concession to physically handicaped person to be extended to Rajdhani/ Shatabdi.

- Medical facilties to dependant parents of Railway employees.

- Scholarship for girl child of Railway employee to be enhanced to Rs. 1200 a month

- Rs. 9583 cr for new lines.

- A new portal for e-ticketing.

- Booking charges to be reduced. Rs. 10 /- for AC classes and Rs.5/- for others.

- 236 more stations to be upgraded as Adarsh stations.

- Two new passanger terminals in Kerala , one in UP, 1 in WB

- Feasibilitiy study to raise speed of passanger trains to 160-200 kmph to be done.

- ACD (Anti Collision Device ) to cover 8 zones.

- GPS based ' Fog Safe ' device to be introduced.

- Eligibility criteria to man Level crossing gates reduced to 3000 Train Vehicle units

- All india security helpline on a single phone number

- A Bridge factory in J & K and a Institute for Bridge and Tunnel Engineering at Jammu.

- A Diesel Loco centre in Manipur.

- A scheme for socially desirable projects ' Pradhan Mantri Rail Vikas Yojana' with non-lapsable fund.

- Recruitment of 1.75lakh of Group D employees.

 - 2011-12 declared as 'Year of Green Energy ' for Railways
