Seventh Pay Commission will revise the salaries and allowances of about 50 lakh Central Government employees and pensioners including 14 Lakh Railway employees. Seventh pay Commission recommendations are likely to be implemented from January 1, 2016. The government constitutes Pay Commission almost every ten years to revise the pay scales of its employees.

After implementation of sixth Pay Commission increments are given on every July 1. Employees who have worked at least 6 months in the preceding one year will get annual increment on July 1. Increments are also given at the time of promotion and MACP. In case of Promotion/MACP employee has the option to get the increment either from date of promotion/MACP or from next July 1 whichever is benefitial for him.

Contribution to State Railway Provident Fund (SRPF)is compulsory for Railway employees who are posted before 01.01.2004. Provident Fund rules are not applicable for those who are posted on or after 01.01.2004. Employee contribute 8.5% of Pay + GP to PF. The account is maintained by Accounts Department. Each PF account is allotted a specific number. Voluntary Contribution to PF (VPF) can be made from the salary of a Railway staff subject to the maximum limit that the amount should not be more than the amount remaining after recoveries.

Refresher courses are also conducted by these training institutes for serving employees. Indian Railways has a total of 291 Training centers spread all over the country.
